vicki

I was born and raised in Tennessee, but now I am a freelance photographer and writer living in warm and sunny Mobile, Alabama. I graduated from Samford University in 2002 with a BA in International Relations and am now at the University of South Alabama pursuing my Master’s degree in Sociology. In between college and graduate school I worked at a human rights NGO in London, took a lot of photography classes, ventured into the world of magazine publishing, got married to a brilliant and sensitive man from Damascus, Syria, and spent a fair amount of time in his native country. I love to travel, take pictures and meet interesting people, which is why I enjoy the life of a freelancer so much. In my work, it is important for me to feel that I am representing people as accurately as I can, whether that person is the local farmer or

cheese-maker struggling in a globalized economy, an attorney at one of the biggest firms in the state, or a woman who has just accomplished her life-long dream of building a schooner. When I’m at my best, I am trying to make people see a social norm or mundane situation in a new light, sometimes through images, sometimes through writing, and sometimes through both. It is my hope that as I continue with my studies, my travels, and life’s experiences in general, I will always remain open to new ways of thinking and being and be able to pass that along to others.
